Alfalfa is one of the best types of hays that are sold in every US state. Here are some of its characteristics.

  • Palitable
  • Good for feeding horses
  • High in Protein

Timothy Hay

Timothy hay is easier on the digestive system than some of the others (in terms of feeding the horses).

  • High in fiber
  • Good for lactating mares
  • A bit expensive

Oat Hay

Oat hay has thicker, tougher stalks than the other options available (which some horses won’t eat).

  • High in sugar
  • Rich in fiber

Orchard Grass

Orchardgrass hay is not as sensitive to time of cutting with regards to end-stage nutrient content.

  • High in fiber
  • Good flavor
